VPS Hosting

VPS Hosting

VPS Hosting provides a complete method to split the server's resources.
Every VPS can run its own separate Operating system. The typical VPS user runs a Guest OS that's either emulated or virtualized.

These Guest operating systems share the server's resources and physical memory.
The Guest operating system can be either fully virtualized, Para virtualized, or a Hybrid.

Virtual private servers

Connect the bridge between Dedicated Server hosting and Shared Web Hosting.
Certain software on a Virtual private server like the fire wall and anti-virus clients will not be able to run within the guest OS.

Para virtualized environment
Currently, Linux, BSD, Plan9, and Open Solaris support the Para virtualized environment.

Unmanaged Hosting

The customer has to setup everything and will have to install, administrate, and fix problems on their own server.

Different types of Virtualization

Full Virtualization: Full virtualization brings a complete concept of the core physical system Bare Metal and then makes a new virtual machine that these guest operating systems can run on. No changes to the guest operating system are needed.

Para-virtualization:

The Para virtualization requests you to make changes to the Linux OS in order to function.
Currently, Linux, BSD, Plan9, and Open Solaris support the Para virtualized environment.

Price

Because you're only using some of the servers' resources, the price is reduced compared to dedicated servers VPS which uses all of the servers' resources.

Control Panel

There are many control panels available to make the use of your VPS quite helpful.
For example: there's cPanel VPS optimized, Plesk, and Direct admin.
cPanel is best used for hosting a website on your VPS
Plesk is best used for hosting applications or services on your VPS.

Depending on what your web host provider uses, it can be possible to boot, restart, and shut down the VPS anytime over the web using a control panel. (Useful when performance is low.)

Common uses for VPS:

Need to support heavy traffic on your website.
You want to host an application over the web (like a game server or a custom program.)
You need the use of advanced features that Shared hosting can't offer (like your own DNS server, custom FTP rules, or Audio/Video streaming.)
